For a while now, if you took a look at the main NASCAR entries that Ford brought to the table, you would probably see something that resembled the Fusion in style. However, next season, it’s planning on mixing things up, running a car that derives from the Mustang similar to its Xfinity offerings. So, what are people saying about the new racecar entry?
Overall, impressions are very positive, especially considering that some have felt that serious Mustang-inspired race cars have had a bit of a clunkier look. Ford made the formal reveal at its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, with a variety of people in attendance, including employees, NASCAR executives, team owners, and all 13 drivers. The announcement was also made that we will see the car’s racing debut in February, at the Daytona 500.
“We look forward to seeing the Ford Mustang, a cultural icon, on the track in the most competitive series in all of motorsports,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR’s head of racing development, in a formal press release. “Our sport eagerly anticipates the performance, style, and fanfare the Mustang will bring to the track each weekend beginning at the 2019 Daytona 500.” The slick style is no accident either, with Ford specifically saying it wanted to avoid having a car that looked like a basic race car with added Mustang stickers.
